(June 29, 2009) As Inmate 61727054, Madoff, age 71, began serving a 150-year prison sentence in Federal Correctional Complex, Butner (NC), where his adjacent cell inmate is Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard.
Madoff and family once lived in a 7-room duplex penthouse at 134 East 64th Street (at Lexington Ave) from 1984 until 2009. His apartment was subsequently purchased by "4Kids Entertainment" toy mogul Alfred Kahn and his wife for $8M in 2010. NBC's "Today" co-host Matt Lauer lives on the 9th floor of this building.
