She was an active advocate for women's rights and was a strong supporter of the Equal Rights Amendment. She was also a strong advocate for the rights of the disabled and was a founding member of the National Organization for Women. Betty Ford was an accomplished dancer and choreographer, and she was a member of the Martha Graham Dance Company. She was also an accomplished writer, having written several books, including her autobiography, The Times of My Life. Betty Ford was an active philanthropist, and she was the founder of the Betty Ford Center, a rehabilitation center for those suffering from substance abuse. She was also a strong advocate for breast cancer awareness and research, and she founded the Betty Ford Breast Cancer Center. Betty Ford died on July 8, 2011 at the age of 93.
