David Russell is a British classical guitarist and composer. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and began playing the guitar at the age of seven. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and later at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. He has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with many of the world's leading chamber ensembles, including the London Sinfonietta, the Nash Ensemble, and the London Guitar Quartet. Russell has released numerous recordings, including his own compositions, as well as works by other composers. He has also written several books on guitar technique and music theory. He is a professor of guitar at the Royal Academy of Music in London, and has been awarded honorary doctorates from the University of Glasgow and the Royal Northern College of Music.
