He was best known for his roles in films such as The Overlanders (1946), The Shiralee (1957), and The Sundowners (1960). Edward Ashley began his career in the 1930s, appearing in a number of Australian films. He was a regular in the films of director Charles Chauvel, appearing in such films as Uncivilised (1936), Heritage (1938), and Forty Thousand Horsemen (1940). He also appeared in the British film The Overlanders (1946). In the 1950s, Edward Ashley appeared in a number of British and Australian films, including The Shiralee (1957) and The Sundowners (1960). He also appeared in the television series Skippy the Bush Kangaroo (1968-1970). Edward Ashley passed away on 28 April, 1971 in Sydney, Australia. He was 66 years old.
