James S. Tisch is an American businessman and philanthropist. He is the current CEO of Loews Corporation, a diversified conglomerate with interests in energy, hotels, and financial services. He is the son of Laurence A. Tisch and the grandson of Preston Robert Tisch, who founded Loews Corporation in 1946. Tisch was born on January 2, 1953 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He graduated from Brown University in 1975 with a degree in economics. He then attended Harvard Business School, where he earned his MBA in 1977. Tisch began his career at Loews Corporation in 1977, working in the corporate finance department. He was appointed president of Loews in 1986 and CEO in 1993. Under his leadership, Loews has grown to become a Fortune 500 company. In addition to his business career, Tisch is an active philanthropist. He serves on the boards of several non-profit organizations, including the New York Public Library, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the United Jewish Appeal.
