John Hornsby is an American musician, songwriter, and producer. He is best known for his work with the band The Allman Brothers Band, which he joined in 1989. He has also worked with a variety of other artists, including Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, and Warren Haynes. Hornsby was born in Williamsburg, Virginia, and grew up in the nearby town of Yorktown. He began playing guitar at the age of 12, and by the time he was 16, he was playing in local bands. He attended the University of Miami, where he studied music and graduated with a degree in music theory and composition. Hornsby joined The Allman Brothers Band in 1989, and has been a member ever since. He has also released several solo albums, including Harbor Lights (1995), Here Comes the Noise (1998), and Here Comes the Noise Again (2001). He has also produced albums for other artists, including Gregg Allman's Low Country Blues (2011). Hornsby is married to singer-songwriter and actress Susan Tedeschi, and they have two children together. He is 64 years old.

Hornsby contributed to six film soundtracks and was an actor in A Place to Grow in 1998, playing one of the "Centennial Singers."
He is a graduate of the University of Virginia Law School, class of 1987.
Hornsby co-wrote seven of nine songs on the multi-platinum album The Way It Is, including the top-five hit "Mandolin Rain". Other tracks on the album helped establish what some labeled the "Virginia sound", a mixture of rock, jazz, and bluegrass, with an observational Southern feel. Bruce Hornsby's group, Bruce Hornsby and the Range, would go on to win the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1986. The Hornsby brothers co-wrote "Jacob's Ladder", which became a #1 hit for Huey Lewis and the News in 1987, and "The Valley Road", for the group's 1988 follow-up album Scenes from the Southside.
