He has also worked with a variety of other artists, including David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, and the Rolling Stones. Pickett was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico, and grew up in El Paso, Texas. He attended the University of North Texas, where he studied classical saxophone and composition. After graduating, he moved to New York City and began performing with various jazz and rock groups. In 1985, Pickett joined the Saturday Night Live Band, where he has remained ever since. He has also served as musical director for the show since 1995. In addition to his work with SNL, Pickett has released several solo albums and has composed music for films, television shows, and commercials.
