Myrl Alderman was an American composer and music department head. He was born in Leoti, Kansas, and attended the University of Kansas, where he studied music. He later moved to Los Angeles, where he worked as a composer and music director for various films and television shows. He composed the music for the television series "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" and "The Donna Reed Show". He also wrote the music for the films "The Big Country" and "The Great Race". Alderman was nominated for an Emmy Award for his work on "The Donna Reed Show". He died in Los Angeles in 1988.

Was accompanist to singer Ruth Etting who divorced her gangster husband Moe 'The Gimp' Snyder in 1937. Enraged by Etting's relationship with Alderman, Snyder shot him in 1938 and was put on trial for kidnapping and attempted murder. Snyder served one year in prison. After the trial Etting and Alderman got married and lived in seclusion near Colorado Springs.
