Sheila Beckett was an English actress who was active in the theatre, film, and television from the 1930s to the 1970s. She was born in Kensington, London, England, on 8 September 1909. She was the daughter of a civil servant and a music teacher. Beckett began her career in the theatre, appearing in a number of plays in the West End. She made her film debut in 1934 in the British comedy The Private Life of Don Juan. She went on to appear in a number of films, including The Man Who Could Work Miracles (1936), The Lady Vanishes (1938), and The Wicked Lady (1945). In the 1950s, Beckett began appearing on television, appearing in a number of series, including The Adventures of Robin Hood, The Avengers, and The Saint. She also appeared in the Doctor Who serial The War Machines in 1966. Beckett was married to actor John Overy from 1938 until his death in 1971. She died in London on 28 April 2002, aged 92.
